Identifying and quantifying compressed air leaks is just a very small piece of the puzzle. Fixing them is the part that matters, and fixing leaks is not as easy as or as quick as it sounds.
Franklin Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind” and while this can be applied to many parts of life, we see it most often when sites conduct compressed air leak surveys. A lot of companies promote the benefits of conducting compressed air audits but if there is no plan or budget to action the recommendations then what is the point?
Compressed Air Alliance recently conducted an audit on site where we found leak tags that were 14 years old and the part was still leaking. The tag in the picture is estimated to have cost the company around $40,000 over that time.
What should I look for in a Compressed Air Leak Audit?
A compressed air specialist should be able to provide you with an estimated leak rate and budget pricing for the repair project. So that instead of conducting a leak audit, you can conduct a leak audit and repair project.
The company you contract to conduct the compressed air leak survey for you must give you:
- A list of each leak and its location clearly identified
- Each leak quantified in size and cost (i.e. potential savings)
- Details of the root cause of the leak
- A recommendation on how to repair the leak
- A detailed list of parts required
- An estimate of the labour required
- Clear images with the marked location of the leak
Ideally, the same company should offer you a turnkey solution for the entire project and be confident enough to provide you with the detail so you can get competitive quotes should you choose to.
Compressed Air Alliance’s Leak Reports give you all the essential information to repair leaks. Check out a sample of our compressed air leak report.
Doing Leak Repairs
When the company turns up on site to conduct leak repairs, all the preparation work should be done. The parts should be sorted and bagged ready for each individual leak and all the information set out ready for the technician to get to work. This saves you downtime and money with a faster and more effective repair process.
This is the Compressed Air Alliance difference. We fix more leaks, more effectively, in less time than anyone else.
